Diósgyőr
Diósgyőrben érdemes lelassítani, végigsétálni a gesztenyefák alatt, leülni a Szinva partjára, és közben felfedezni Miskolc egyik legsokszínűbb városrészét.
Royal past, chestnut trees, and a good coffee
At the foot of the Bükk Mountains, centuries of history intertwine. Memories of kings and queens, the industrial heritage that shaped the city, and the vibrant everyday life of modern-day Diósgyőr. The symbol of the district is Diósgyőr Castle, which flourished during the reign of King Louis the Great and later served as a residence for Hungarian queens. Although it is currently not open to visitors, the surrounding area is still worth exploring. The neighbouring Knight's Tournament Square hosts concerts and events, offering a reason to return even for an evening programme.
Memories of an industrial past
At the beginning of the chestnut tree-lined avenue leading to the castle, where Bartók Béla Street meets Vár Street, the Industrial Heritage Museum offers a glimpse into another era of Miskolc. Its collection evokes a time when metallurgy and machinery manufacturing set the rhythm of the city's life, providing livelihoods for tens of thousands of people in the Diósgyőr factories. The area of the former ironworks, awaiting renewal, still bears the traces of this vast industrial past.
A little relaxation alongside history
Sit on the steps of Pope John Paul II Square, descending towards the Szinva stream, and listen to the sound of the water. Then, treat yourself to a few scoops of handmade ice cream at Kisgergely Confectionery and continue your walk under the chestnut trees. If you're craving an excellent coffee, visit A HÁZ café: carefully prepared speciality coffees, homemade cakes, and a cosy atmosphere will tempt you to stay longer. Perhaps even for a few days – from the uniquely styled accommodation, it's easy to continue your journey towards the Bükk Mountains after exploring Diósgyőr.
