3–5 days in Miskolc
If you have three, four, or five days to relax, Miskolc awaits with truly magical spots, offering much more than a traditional city visit, allowing you to unwind and recharge. The historic city centre, the hiking spots in the Bükk mountains, Lillafüred, Miskolctapolca, and the local gastronomy provide a variety of activities, letting you tailor your trip to your preferences.
Day 1 - Miskolc's historic city centre and Avas
Get to know the historic centre of the city! Stroll along Széchenyi István Street, explore the Szinva Terrace, visit the Herman Ottó Museum or the Theatre Museum, where you can also delve into the history of Miskolc's theatrical traditions. In the afternoon, head towards Avas. The Avas Reformed Church, the Avas Lookout Tower, and the historic wine cellar row showcase one of the most characteristic parts of Miskolc. If you'd like to discover a quieter, lesser-known spot, visit the Avas Arboretum, where you can walk among unique plants.
End your day at one of the downtown restaurants or with a glass of Bükk wine. If you're here on a Friday or Saturday, it's worth visiting one of the panoramic wineries on the Avas wine cellar row, where you can enjoy the city's lights while tasting local wines.
Day 2 - Lillafüred and the natural wonders of the Bükk
Let nature take centre stage on the second day! Travel on the Lillafüred State Forest Railway and explore the surroundings of the Palotaszálló, the Hanging Gardens, Lake Hámori, and the waterfall. Visit the Anna Cave and the Saint Stephen Cave, and if you're up for it, try the Lillafüred Chairlift Park.
There are more experiences waiting in the area. The Miskolc Zoo is a great programme for families and animal enthusiasts, while the Szeleta Park Visitor Centre introduces you to the geological, natural, and prehistoric treasures of the Bükk Mountains.
If you're interested in industrial history, visit the Fazola Furnace, also known as the Ancient Furnace, near Lillafüred, along with the Massa Museum next to it. These hidden relics in the Bükk forests evoke the region's former iron production era. Lillafüred reveals a different charm in every season, making it a memorable destination in spring, summer, autumn, or winter.
Day 3 - Recharging in Miskolctapolca
Spend your third day in Miskolctapolca! Besides the pools of the Ellipsum Experience Bath and the Cave Bath, the area offers plenty of active programmes.
From the bobsleigh track, the adventure park, the boating lake, to the electric go-kart track, there's something for every age group. If you'd rather relax, a longer soak and a pleasant walk can also make for a perfect day.
In three days, you can explore Miskolc's classic attractions, while in four or five days, you'll have time to discover the city's and the Bükk's lesser-known experiences. And it's very likely that even then, there will be places left that will make you want to return!
Day 4 - Panoramas and discoveries in the Bükk
If you have a fourth day, explore more of the Bükk's treasures, as you surely couldn't fit everything into your previous hiking day! Hike up to the Zsófia Lookout Tower, which offers stunning views of Lillafüred and the surrounding mountains.
If you're interested in astronomy, it's worth visiting the Bükk Observatory near Répáshuta. The planetarium, interactive exhibits, and telescope demonstrations take you on a journey through the universe. You can even combine the visit with a hike in Lillafüred, but make sure to choose your programmes wisely to have enough time for everything.
Day 5 - Flavours, experiences, and hidden treasures
Dedicate your fifth day to experiences that wouldn't fit into a shorter trip. For instance, you probably missed one of the baths in Miskolctapolca, so now's the perfect time to take a dip there!
In the remaining time, explore Miskolc's lesser-known neighbourhoods, join a themed city walk, or learn about the history of the Avas wine cellars on a guided wine tour. For food lovers, the local restaurants, Bükk wines, and dishes made from seasonal ingredients offer further delights. Discover the flavours and natural treasures of the Bükk in as many excellent restaurants as you can!
